  • Featuring Lord Ilay, the first Governor of the Royal Bank of Scotland, this series of Scottish pound notes has been in production since 1987. Like all Scottish pounds, these RBS banknotes are legal tender within Scotland, but are not legal tender in other countries of the United Kingdom. Some shops in England may accept the notes.

Scottish pounds currently in circulation, issued by Clydesdale Bank

  • First issued by the Clydesdale Bank based in Glasgow, this series of Scottish pound banknotes was released in 2009. Known as the World Heritage Series, these banknotes bear an image of Scottish World Heritage Sites on the reverse. Like all Scottish pounds, these Clydesdale Bank notes are not legal tender outside of Scotland, though they are accepted by some merchants in England.

Discontinued Scottish pounds issued by the Bank of Scotland

  • This series of Bank of Scotland banknotes was discontinued and replaced by the present series released in 2007. These banknotes are no longer legal tender, as they were demonetized after the new series was issued.

The new edition bears the image of Lord Ilay, first Governor of the Royal Bank of Scotland, distinguishing the new series from these out-of-circulation Royal Bank of Scotland banknotes.
